Wes got his Golden Age Pass yesterday. This is a lifetime free admission to any of the National Parks and other National sites. We used it at the Padre Island National Seashore 2/07/09. We took a long drive down the beach. Very nice place!!
We left Aransas Pass at 5:30 am on Christmas Eve. We got into much rain in Louisiana and traffic was going at a snails pace. Many accidents were happening. We got to Mississippi at about dark (5:30 pm). Visibility due to fog was almost "0". We parked the trailer in a casino parking lot, went inside to enjoy the buffet and returned to the trailer and slept until about 4:00 am. Fog was still thick so we traveled pretty slow. We found a nice RV park that evening in Old Town, Florida. It was on the Suwannee River. Next day we traveled to the Keys. Tried finding an RV park in Key Largo but all were full. We traveled on down the Keys about 3o more miles and found a KOA. We drove to Key West on Saturday and did some sightseeing there. The water was beautiful all along the Keys.
When we left the Keys we drove through the Everglades and saw lots of alligators. I really enjoyed seeing all the beautiful plants all over Florida. We stayed Sunday night at a rest stop near Tallahassee, Florida. The Florida rest areas are very nice and have nighttime security. We stayed Monday night at an RV park at the Hollywood Casino in St Louis Bay Mississippi. We left there Tuesday morning and drove back to Aransas Pass arriving at 6:00 pm. Trip was about 3300 miles.
We celebrated our 2008 Christmas at Kerri and Jake Zinsmeyer's new home in Castroville. 43 members of the Lessing Family attended. As usual, we had enough food to feed several large families. We missed having Kenny, Chris, Jill and Willem, Brittny, and Casey, Morgan and their babies---maybe next year.
